Xbox & Bethesda's 2022 games showcase ended with the gameplay debut of the highly anticipated Starfield. The intergalactic action RPG has been in development since 2015 and is the first new IP from Bethesda Softworks in 25 years.
Starfield is set in an area that extends outward from the Solar System for approximately 50 light-years called The Settled Systems. The player assumes the role of a customizable character who is a member of Constellation, an organization of space explorers.
The worldwide gameplay premiere showcased everything from the combat, UI, plot beats, and even the ability to create and customize your own spaceship. Todd Howard, director and executive producer at Bethesda, also revealed the game will have over 1000 fully explorable planets for the player to discover and interact with.
From the reveal, the total package of Starfield so far is a bit underwhelming given the hype behind this game, but these are still early days. Starfield is expected to be released sometime in 2023.
