Attention influencers: Changes are coming to LA's iconic Pink Wall

Change is afoot at one of Los Angeles' most historic attractions, the 17-year-old Instagram phenomenon that is the Pink Wall.

On Tuesday, April 19, painters could be observed painting a corner of the iconic pink storefront white.

The Pink Wall serves as the bubblegum pink facade of designer Paul Smith's flagship store on Melrose Avenue. It is more widely known, however, as a backdrop for selfies. People journey to the Pink Wall from across the world for a chance to snap a pic at the iconic location made famous by Instagram influencers.

But the all-pink building is apparently getting a facelift. On Monday evening (April 18), TikTokker notbfiner noticed the white paint and posted a video about it, aptly asking "Do you think the Pink Wall is going away? This could shake up LA like we've never seen before."

Employees at Paul Smith were tight-lipped about what the new paint job would entail. When asked whether the Pink Wall was going away, one employee, who declined to give his name, told Mashable it was "not," but said he could not talk about what the changes would be.

A painter with the company Overall Murals, who was working on the project, said they were painting "stripes," and thought it might be connected to Paul Smith's new campaign. The painter was also hesitant to elaborate.

It's unclear when the Pink Wall will appear in its new, potentially striped form. This is a developing story.
